Pearl Farmers Market

Buy Fresh Buy Local is all about making it fun and easy to find delicious, farm-fresh foods in northeast Oklahoma. Purchasing locally-produced foods supports our region’s farmers, strengthens our local economy and improves our food security.

Local food organizers are working hard to distribute a 2008 Local Food Guide for northeast Oklahoma by early this summer. The Food Guide list sources for locally-produced fruits, vegetables, herbs, plants, honey, nuts, grains, meats, eggs, dairy foods and other agricultural goods. U-pick farms, farmstands, and other growers selling directly to the public will be included, as will farmers’ markets, local food markets, and possibly restaurants, so that food shoppers can know where to Buy Fresh Buy Local in Green Country.

One other source for local foods to be listed in the Food Guide is the Oklahoma Food Cooperative, where customer members can order a wide variety of good eats directly from farmers and ranchers. The Food Guide will also contain useful information about the seasonal availability of locally-produced foods in the region.

Through these efforts along with promotional materials and educational activities, Buy Fresh Buy Local is making it easier for individuals, families and communities to support local farms while making healthy food choices. Contributions of time, funding and other resources are always needed to help this vital work become a regular part of our community’s infrastructure.

Get your 2008 Green Country Farmers’ Market Guide and find a market near your home or work. By early-May, farmers’ markets are happening throughout Green Country five days a week.
